The state should present a strategy for electricity exports – Olha Tahiieva

State authorities (the Ministry of Energy, NEURC and companies (NPC Ukrenergo) must present the market with a further clear plan for the possibility of exporting electricity, as well as the conditions under which exporters will work. This is the opinion of the head of the Public Union «Energy Union» Olha Tahiieva in her commentary for Energy Union Info.

“Auctions to sell access to the interstate section have already begun, аt the same time the policy of export potential remains unclear. How the export corridor will be opened? How much power will be offered for sale in the future? Whether all companies in the energy market will have an equal opportunity to export electricity? How exports will be regulated?

All these questions remain open. The state must give clear answers so that business could plan its activities.

She emphasized that businesses need predictable and clear rules of the game, as well as conditions for equal participation.

Traders today do not have a clear idea and confidence that the same rights for all exporters will be ensured in the future. Business also does not have information about possible innovations by the Ministry of Energy or Regulator, such as PSOs or other regulation,” the Public Union chairman added.

Olha Tahiieva noted that the market should be familiar with further export conditions so that suppliers can effectively plan their activities, which will give the maximum benefit to their business in particular and the economy of a belligerent country as a whole.
